Rick Ferrell was regarded as one of the best catchers in baseball during the 1930s and early 1940s. While playing for the Red Sox in 1933, he and his brother Wes were selected to play for the American League (AL) team in the inaugural 1933 Major League Baseball All-Star Game held on July 6, 1933. His 1,806 games played as a catcher set an AL longevity record which stood for more than 40 years. A seven-time All-Star, Ferrell was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984 by the Veterans Committee. Dick Perez is internationally recognized as the preeminent artist within the world of baseball. He had the distinguished honor of being official artist of the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York for over twenty years, and where many of his paintings still hang. He has painted portraits of every Hall of Fame inductee. Each year Perez paints the official portraits of newly inducted members for display at the Hall of Fame during the player’s induction year. One of the most beautiful sets ever issued, Perez-Steele's "Great Moments" set began publication in 1985. The offering was limited to 5,000 numbered sets with periodical updates. The set is fashioned after Dick Perez’ favorite card set of all time, the colorful T-3 Turkey Red cabinet cards of 1911 and salutes the defining moments in the careers of Baseball Hall of Famers featured in the set.
