In 1999, while with the Florida Marlins, Alex Gonzalez made the Major League Baseball All-Star Game. Gonzalez played an important role in the 2003 World Series against the Yankees. After going 1-for-13 in the World Series, he hit a walk-off home run in the 12th inning of Game Four to give the Marlins a 4–3 victory and a 2–2 tie in the Series. On March 24, 2014, Gonzalez was traded to the Detroit Tigers. In his Tigers debut Opening Day against the Kansas City Royals, Gonzalez hit an RBI-triple to tie the game in the seventh inning, and later hit a walkoff single in the ninth to give the Tigers a 4–3 victory.
