Prior to the start of the 1971 season, Al Downing was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Downing turned things around in his first season in the National League, winning twenty games. He earned NL Comeback Player of the Year honors as well as finishing third in NL Cy Young award balloting. Al Downing gave up Hank Aaron's famous 715th home run on April 8, 1974.
