The 1948 Boston Braves season produced the team's second NL pennant of the 20th century, its first since 1914, and its tenth overall league title dating to 1876. Led by starting pitchers Johnny Sain and Warren Spahn. On September 14, 1948, in the midst of a pennant race, the Boston Post publishes a four-line poem by Gerry Hern calling on pitchers Warren Spahn and Johnny Sain to bear the pitching burden, resting on off days and – if luck is with the Braves – when it rains. The rhyme is shortened by Braves fans to “Spahn and Sain and pray for rain.” Warren Spahn & Johnny Sain have both hand signed this Boston Braves 8x10 Photo. Bold Blue Signatures with Pray For Rain inscription. Tuff Stuff Certificate of Authenticity.
